Class Description:
Unlock the bold, graphic beauty of letterforms using a flat watercolor brush. In this hands-on workshop, Linda McVicar -- longtime calligraphy educator and award-winning artist -- guides you through brush control, stroke sequence, spacing, and rhythm so you can letter expressive words and titles for cards, journals, and mixed-media paintings. We'll practice foundational shapes, explore classic styles that suit a flat brush (including Neuland-style capitals), and finish with a small lettered piece you'll be proud to share. You'll learn: holding angles for thicks/thins, entry/exit strokes, pressure and speed control, spacing, simple layout, and how to adapt flat-brush lettering for watercolor or acrylic on paper and panels. Who it is for: Beginners to intermediate artists - no calligraphy experience required. Painters who want eye-catching titles and quotes on artwork will love this. Supplies (bring if you have them; loaners available): 1/4" flat brush (good spring), watercolor or fluid acrylic, water container, ruler, pencil, eraser, practice paper (marker or mixed-media). |
