October 20 - Day one -- will be the Ti plant, or Hawaiian Good Luck Plant
Anne will be showing the class how she enhances her photos using the reference photo as an example. Tired of muddy or unnatural-looking greens in your watercolor paintings? This will be a class focusing on warm and cool colors; you will be making greyed greens, cool and warm greens. In this vibrant session, Anne will show you how to mix luminous, layered greens that pop with life. Discover how to create variety, depth, and harmony in your foliage and backgrounds using just a few key pigments. Whether you're painting landscapes, florals, or still lifes, your greens will never be dull again! |
Please come to class with the drawing done on the paper and size of your choice. Anne will be working on 300# Arches, approximately 11x14 in size. She prefers this weight paper and works with this smaller format for ease when teaching; you can do any size you want.
Please make a black and white copy of the photo sent for the class. This will help establish the values in the painting.

October 21 - Day two -- will be Frangipani, or Plumeria flower
White flowers may seem simple, but any watercolorist knows they’re anything but! In this illuminating workshop, award-winning artist Anne Abgott will guide you through the subtle art of painting vibrant white blooms by focusing on what surrounds them—colorful, transparent shadows. Using her stunning Frangipani reference photo, Anne will show you how to make petals glow by mastering value contrast, soft and hard edges, and temperature shifts. You'll learn her special approach to simplifying a busy background while keeping just enough detail to create balance and interest. Anne’s clear instruction and hands-on guidance make complex concepts accessible—whether you’re refining your skills or discovering them for the first time. |

Anne's Bio
Anne Abgott is a Canadian-born watercolor artist based in Cortez, Florida, renowned for her bold and direct painting style. After beginning in oils as a teen, she transitioned to watercolor in the 1990s, quickly setting aside traditional methods like glazing in favor of vibrant, palette-to-paper application. Her signature approach involves dropping pure color directly onto dry paper, then blending and layering to create luminous, expressive works—a technique she details in her bestselling book Daring Color
Abgott’s deep understanding of design and composition underpins her artistry, and she often manipulates photo references digitally to refine dynamic compositions that challenge both herself and her students.
A highly respected and multi-award-winning figure in the watercolor community, Anne holds Signature status in prestigious organizations including the American Watercolor Society (AWS), National Watercolor Society (NWS), and Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA).
She is a sought-after instructor, having led over 100 workshops both in-person and via Zoom, and serves as a juror at national exhibitions. Her vibrant work has been featured in numerous publications, most recently in The Art of Watercolor (May 2024), and she continues to inspire artists with her fearless use of color and dynamic teaching style
