Workshop Description:
Unlock the power of color, contrast, and composition in this dynamic 3-day workshop led by nationally acclaimed artist Susan M. Stuller, known for her award-winning watercolors and expressive mixed media work. Whether you're a watercolor traditionalist or eager to explore the exciting arena of mixed media, Susan will guide you through a transformative artistic journey.
Day one and two will focus on designing with intention, developing confident brushwork, and building rich luminous layers. You'll learn to balance transparency with texture, explore unique subject matter, and discover how to make your paintings pop with bold color choices and dramatic contrast. Susan will demonstrate how she uses and combines photos a to get the design and composition she desires. She will also show how multiple glazing effects accomplish our value goals.
Day 3 is simply PURE FUN! We will be using a gessoed paper surface, which acts like Yupo paper but with a bit more tooth in it. This surface allows for more creativity and exploration. Susan will take an old watercolor and pour gesso on it to show you how to either revive that painting or turn it into something entirely new.
Susan’s approachable, encouraging style makes this workshop ideal for artists of all levels. With daily demonstrations, one-on-one guidance, and constructive critiques, you’ll walk away not only with several completed pieces, but also a deeper understanding of what makes a painting sing.
