Class Description:
Learn to loosen up and paint from the heart! We will be drawing more contemporary versions of people, in the loosest fashion possible. Simplicity is the name of the game in this workshop. Many techniques for texture, how to build layers for depth, working with limited colors, and lots of fun tricks done with rubbing alcohol and other tools, are just some of the new skills that you will learn. On day one, we will learn how to do wire drawings, which will help the students to loosen up! (Wire drawings are done with permanent markers and they resemble wire sculptures when completed.) This workshop is geared for all levels of acrylic students. We will also be trying other mixed media for detail work, like caran d’ache crayons and Prismacolor pencils. Karen Knutson is a very sought after instructor who believes that painting should be fun, but also likes to teach good design at the same time. Click for Supply List Click for Karen Knutson Bio |

Class Description:
This is a very popular workshop! Students sign up again and again, because Karen always has new tricks up her sleeves to make these little abstracts such a fun endeavor. This time students will learn tricks using masking fluid. These paintings are about 5” x 7” or 7 x 10”. We will complete either two or four, depending on how fast you are. Students will learn to loosen up and how to apply watercolor and then add collage to enhance the textures. Color lessons also benefit all of our paintings and for the crowning glory, we will add metallic accents to our paintings! These are fun paintings but also can be used as studies for larger paintings. Click for Supply List Click for Karen Knutson Bio |

Class Description:
WE start with what is important to YOU. We build on that to make the strongest painting possible. Participants will create paintings using the elements of shape, line, value and color to simplify subject and use a variety of color plans to create emotion and mood in a representational painting. Discussion of content and the importance of a personal vision will also be discussed. Participants will also work intuitively with shape, color, line and especially texture to produce an abstraction with a personal focus. A variety of ‘slippery surfaces’ will be explored. Painting intuitively and experimentally will be covered. These paintings will be as fun and absorbing to view, as they are to paint. There will be both group and individualized instruction. This is a fast moving, fun, mixed water media workshop where we all learn and share. All levels are welcome as long as everyone is comfortable with their materials.
