"Watercolor & Wire Drawing on a Textured Surface"

Class Description:
Beginning with collaging neutral fiber papers onto watercolor paper, the students will add a wire drawing (a drawing that is done with a permanent marker and looks like a wire sculpture). Students will complete the painting using watercolor. The second painting will involve students painting a floral of their choice and adding wire drawing. This is Karen’s very favorite thing to do! When learning to “wire draw”, wrong lines are actually good.

Wire drawing helps you to become a better artist. So, if you struggle with your drawing, this is the class for you! Design tips will be shared, along with color tips. Karen gives lots of individual attention, and believes that painting should be fun and easy.

WATERCOLOR BATIK on RICE PAPER
Wax and watercolor are unlikely bedfellows, but put them together and wow! You get a look like no other medium. This is not an exact science, so relax and enjoy the process. We layer watercolor and wax, until you’re not sure what’s under there. And then, off comes the wax and wowser! It’s like Christmas. Bring your apron because we get messy, but we have a lot of fun.

WATERCOLOR WITH A TWIST
Looking for a new way to use your watercolor? This is great fun.  First comes an amazing textured surface on UART sanded paper. We use rich colorful watercolor washes and some things Kathie has just for this purpose. Then we develop our design with additional watercolor washes and pastel pencils, making use of the beautiful textured surface we have in front of us! It’s push and pull, positive and negative painting and a lot of fun. You may find yourself coming up with your own ideas each step of the way.
